ABOUT FERST READERS

OF MORGAN COUNTY, GA

The mission of Ferst Readers  of Morgan County is "to enhance school readiness and encourage a life-long love of reading by means such as providing books to Morgan County children from birth to age five."

Ferst Readers of Morgan County wants every child to have the best start in life - and nothing helps a baby's brain develop more than exposure to rich language and loving interactions.

The key is having books in the home and being read to - right from birth.

WHAT DO WE DO?

Ferst Readers of Morgan County was started in 2000 to address the growing problem of children, entering kindergarten without basic early literacy skills and school readiness, a preventable problem that has far-reaching impacts throughout students’ lives. That first year the program mailed books to approximately 50 children per month and has grown to delivering books to over 800 Morgan County children each month.

Children in the Ferst Readers of Morgan County literacy program receive a bookstore-quality, age-specific book and resources mailed to them at home every month until they enter kindergarten. It is this access to print that helps create a language-rich environment in the home.
